The first Business of Newborn Photography workshop is a wrap (no pun intended)!  It was the best 2 days having 5 awesome ladies join us at Jessica‘s studio in Alabama for non-stop learning about everything newborn photography and business related.  I feel blessed that these women trusted us to take their newborn photography businesses to the next level.  We worked hard for those 2 days, no naps and lots of coffee and Essential Oils.

The Business of Newborn Photography

Day 1
The first day was all about photographing newborns with the lovely Jessica of Jessica Mitchell Photography.  She walked us through how she chooses her setups, color combos, textures, backdrops and props.  Attendees were able to see how she works with the parents at the beginning of each session and her entire workflow.  We had 3 newborns throughout the day.  Jessica worked with each attendee on different poses they struggle with during their sessions and how to improve them.  I love watching Jessica at work.  She is the best of the best when it comes to working with newborns and I learn something new from her every time I’m at her studio.

At the end of the day, we showed everyone our general editing workflow and walked through a few images from the 3 sessions.  Every attendee had their laptops and followed along asking questions as they came up.  We spent a little more time hanging out that night and learning than we expected but we wanted to make sure everyone got what they need for their business!

Day 2
The second day was all about the business side of things with me, my favorite!  Going into this day, it was heavy on my heart that I be completely transparent, open, encouraging and supportive in each photographer’s dreams.  I’ve had some amazing mentors over the last 3 years and they have all been honest, open books to me.  That’s how I learn, that’s how I relate and that’s what I wanted for everyone at our workshop.  I was busting at the seams to teach easy, simple, practical information that they could apply to their businesses as soon as they got home.  I’ve made plenty of mistakes in my business and have a desire to help others avoid them if at all possible to reach their goals faster.

We started the day strong with making sure everyone understood if and how to setup their business properly.  We went over everything from Business Plan and Goals to Financial Plans/Budgeting, Pricing, Products, Marketing, Branding, Client Workflow and more.  There was a lot of note taking and filling out step-by-step worksheets along with lots of questions.  We dug deep, talked about the hard stuff and dreamed about where their businesses are going.

I feel blessed to have been a part of each of these women’s lives and businesses.  With everything we did at the workshop, I know each attendee will be able to take back what they learned from both days and grow their business.  I can’t wait to watch each of them and their photography journey!
